The Club has a rich history of Tennis, dating back to 1961 when the first courts were built. The nine tennis courts are surrounded by 100 year old grand oaks which creates a serene atmosphere in an environment ideal for a total tennis enjoyment. Tennis Industry's Court-of the-Year Winner and Outstanding Tennis Facility by US Court and Track Builders Association. Tennis activity at TYCC ranks as one of the busiest in the country with a weekly program of four USTA teams, two local ladies leagues Suncoast and Interbay, two nightly men's leagues and tennis playing by many of our active members. The tennis program is under the the Directorship of Gewan Maharaj and a supporting cast of certified USPTA tennis professionals. We offer lessons for juniors 4-6 years of age in our Ankle Biters program, 6 years old and up in our daily program. We also provide private and group instruction for adults and aspiring juniors 7 days a week. The pro shop is stocked with all your tennis needs including racquets, shoes, clothing, grips and balls, as well as TYCC logo merchandise. The calender year of special events consists of the mixed doubles event in February, the traditional Sock and Shoe Match against Palma Ceia Country Club in its 41st. year in April 2012, the doubles championships in May, the parent child tournament in June, the junior championship and awards banquet in September, and the singles championships in November.

Court Reservations may be made as much as 2 1/2 days in advance, beginning at 8:00 AM. Upon arrival, please check-in at the Tennis Desk for Court assignment and introduction of any guests.


To participate in any tennis event such as private lessons, adult clinics, or junior clinics an invitation by a club member is required. The invitation can be verified through a phone call, an email, or in person by the sponsoring club member. 

Dress Code

No work-out style clothing (no sports bras or spandex tights worn alone, no tank tops on men), no cut-off jeans or swimwear. Tennis shoes required.

Gewan Maharaj, Director of Tennis: Has numerous World and National Rankings, National USPTA Player of the Year, ranked #8 in the World ITF 45s, played the Pro Circuit, West Indies Davis Cup Team, respected teacher/coach since 1968.

Augusto Solano, Head Teaching Pro: Ranked #11 in the world , Juniors, 1985. Played Wimbledon Juniors and U.S. Open. Played Davis Cup for Columbia. All Southwest Conference Champion, '88 & '89 at University of Arkansas. Coached the "Elite Program" at Bolletieri's Acadamy. Coached Agassi, Selles, Haas, Mirnyi, and Anna Kournikova.
